It is the 10th anniversary of the Black Dog Ride and to mark the occasions 50 motorcyclists will leave Busselton to make their way around Australia raising awareness about depression and suicide prevention.
The organisation was founded by Busselton resident Steve Andrews who was riding around Australia in 2009, it is when he came up with the idea after losing his mum.
Mr Andrews talked about his idea when he arrived home with friends John Lewin and Alex Kok - and Black Dog Ride was formed - the first formal ride took place in 2010 starting in Bridgetown and finishing in Busselton
"To our delight 250 motorbikes fronted up to that event and that is when we realised this idea had some legs and we developed it from there," Mr Lewin said.
"The one day ride still continues on the first Sunday of March every year right across Australia in more than 40 locations, 5 are in WA the rest are in the other states."
The team have also organised rides with bikers from all around Australia meeting up in the red centre of the nation, along with rides to Darwin, Phillip Island, Tasmania and coast-to-coast across the USA.
In towns all along their journeys, the riders stop and talk to school children and community groups about depression and suicide prevention.
Every day, eight Australians take their lives, which is a person lost to mental illness every three hours.
Forty-five per cent of Australians experience mental health concerns during their lifetime and research has found that work at a community level can have a profound impact on raising awareness and preventing suicide.
Black Dog Ride has raised more than $500,000 which has gone to mental health projects and organisations including Lifeline, Mental Health First Aid Australia and headspace.
Black Dog Ride coordinator Steve Ingram said this year the riders would take off from Georgiana Molloy Anglican School on Sunday July 26.
Mr Ingram said registrations were still open and riders wanting to take part in the event could ride part or all of the way.
"In each state we are having a different section that joins the main ride, in WA we will start off in Busselton then head south to Denmark," he said.
"Some of the riders will peel off to the east, and the rest will come back to Busselton, the next state will meet up with them and ride along. Riders can join on any day and ride along for one, two, three or four days.
"One of the biggest things on the ride is the bonding of the group, they riders will be together for 27 days, they do all sorts of things day-in-day-out together."
The ride around Australia will commence at 7am with breakfast and a live broadcast from Triple M. For more information please visit blackdogride.org.au.
