Are two heads really better than one and is there actually strength in numbers?
At Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organisation (MAPTO) we certainly think so.
Partnerships and collaboration are key to our success and so many examples have jumped out at me recently that I wanted to share a few.
This will hopefully give you a little more insight into how we work with our partners to get better tourism outcomes for our region.
One of the more obvious partnerships is within the tourism industry itself.
We work with Tourism WA, Destination Perth, accommodation and tour providers, attractions, restaurants and others who are at the coalface of providing an enjoyable and memorable visitor experience.
Together we work to increase awareness of our region by hosting travel agents and journalists.
We also attend trade shows across Australia and around the world.
Local collaborations also provide many tourism benefits.
A recent example is the development of a new online, digital assets library, which features over 5000 high-quality photographs.
It also includes video and drone footage from across the Peel region.
This exciting asset will be available to everyone to promote the region, whether it be to visit, live, work, study or invest and we'll be sharing more details soon.
This asset was made possible by a Royalties for Region grant administered by the Peel Development Commission and additional funding from local government authorities across the region.
Like many industries, tourism is one that is rapidly changing and growing and the businesses that succeed are those that adapt and invest in their own learning.
MAPTO is proud to have partnered with Tourism Council WA to deliver tourism training in Mandurah.
Across two days at the end of this month, tourism businesses can take part in accredited courses covering social media marketing and search engine optimisation, with MAPTO subsidising some costs.
We also collaborate on marketing and advertising campaigns.
Right now, we are working with the City of Mandurah to promote their Let's Do Winter series of events.
There is certainly plenty of exciting things happening in Mandurah and the wider Peel region during the colder months.
I hope you've had a chance to pull on some ice skates, take in some live music, enjoy a fabulous winter meal, try your hand at an artistic venture, or join in one of the many events throughout our city which is just as enjoyable in winter as it is in summer.
Anita Kane is the acting general manager of MAPTO.
