Mandurah Magic women douse Flames to keep hot streak rolling

Another stellar night from Casey Mihovilovich helped the Mandurah Magic women stretch their winning streak to six consecutive victories as they proved too hot for the Rockingham Flames last Friday night.

Just a month removed from losing to the Flames by 14 points, this game proved a significant turnaround for the Magic as they kept their form rolling with an 81-65 victory.

The result also sees the Magic march into the Women's State Basketball League's top four.

Mihovilovich's 20-point night proved the catalyst in the scoring column for Mandurah, as they won every quarter on their way to the win.

The star veteran was on fire from the beginning scoring the Magic's first seven points for the night from her own hand, while strong support from Bree Klasztorny and Rachel Halleen saw the home side assume an early lead.

Rockingham hit back cutting the deficit to just two points in midway through the second quarter, but a barrage of three point bombs elevated Mandurah once again.

Carly Boag, Rachel Pettit and Emma Klasztorny were on fire from beyond the arch as they combined to give the Magic five straight triples in just two-and-a-half minutes, restoring the lead to nine points at half time.

The Flames gave an improved defensive effort in the third quarter but their offence sputtered as Mandurah increased their lead to 11 at the end of the period.

From there the Magic were able to ride to the win, elevating them into the top four.

Mihovilovich ended her night with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Taylor Brown accumulated 16 points, seven rebounds.

Mandurah has hit form at just right the time, it would seem, with just three rounds remaining until the playoffs begin.

In those three games the Magic has the chance to improve their standing even further, sitting just two games behind the top spot Lakeside Lightning.
