The Mandurah Magic men went 1-1 over their double-header of games on the weekend, picking up a hearty win over the South West before running into the league-leading Joondalup Wolves on Saturday.
Star import Marvin Smith led the way in the win over the Slammers, covering the absence of all-star point guard Shaun Stewart with a stunning 31 points and 13 rebounds.
Mandurah took a while to get going in the clash, with Smith and Damon Ballantyne their only scorers in the opening quarter.
But they were able to turn a seven-point deficit into a 10-point lead in the second quarter, heading into half time with plenty of momentum.
From there it was a matter of each team trading buckets in the second half, as Mandurah held onto their lead for a 69-80 victory.
Smith's stats highlighted the win, along with a stellar effort of 16 points, 15 rebounds and four assists from Travis Durnin against his former side.
Young gun Riley Parker was exceptional as he stepped into the starting line-up for the absent Stewart, recording seven points, four rebound and four assists.
Unfortunately the Magic ran into the juggernaut that is Joondalup on the Saturday, going down 59-72.
Mandurah's slow start crippled them, but they put up a spirited fight over the final three quarters of the game.
Parker's solid weekend continued as he went for 13 points and three rebounds, while Aaron Kearing notched 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Mandurah now sits in 12th on the ladder with five wins on the season.
They'll take to the floor for their third straight double-header of games this weekend, clashing against East Perth and the Goldfields.
