McNamara blitz puts Tigers back on track with victory over Halls Head

The gun Tigers recruit was outstanding playing deep in the forward line, while his side's defence mustered a strong effort to keep Halls Head goalless in the second half as they carved out the 12-goal win.

The former West Coast player and East Fremantle star was on fire from the outset, booting the first three goals of the day to set up a comfortable break for Pinjarra.

But Halls Head were able to hit back with Danny Smith and Matt Ballantyne putting in good performances, as they cut the deficit to just five points at quarter time.

The Lightning kept up their spirited display in the second term, but a late major to McNamara helped Pinjarra take momentum into half time with an 11-point buffer.

From there it was all about the home side, though, with the Tigers nailing 10 goals to Halls Head's none in the second half.

Prior to Sunday, Brett Milward had been Pinjarra's only scorer across the past fortnight.

But five Tigers were able to register multiple goals against the Lightning, with Milward, Blake Lee, Braddon Kazakoff and Rob Beswick all notching two alongside McNamara's five.

Tye Salter's goal put the finishing touches on a comfortable win for the home side, seeing them return to form just before the upcoming bye week.

Pinjarra coach Troy Vidovich attributed his side's improved showing to a "refreshed" mental approach.

"After last week's game we were just really keen to put the whole thing behind us," he said.

"We all acknowledge we had a bit of a stinker, but you can either dwell on it and cry over it, or you can regroup and bring a better mindset to the next one.

"We were successful in turning up ready to play, and it shows that when we play our best footy it's still a very decent brand."

Vidovich praised McNamara in the wake of his big day out.

"He's a natural player, and you do give guys like him a bit of a licence to do what they can," he said.

"We just threw him in the forward line and he got the job done like we knew he would.

"Jamie's going to be pretty vital for us moving forward. Someone with his knowledge of the game is invaluable at this level so it's really nice to see him playing well."

The Tigers will enter their bye week with a clash against Waroona looming on the other side, while Halls Head take on Baldivis in a fortnight.
