Mandurah MP David Templeman has congratulated Andrew Hastie on his re-election as Canning MP - but called on the federal member to deliver on pre-election commitments made in the 2019 election campaign.
Incumbent Mr Hastie strengthened his position in the federal electorate of Canning in the May 18 election, beating Labor candidate Mellisa Teede convincingly to retain the seat.
The Liberal MP committed a swathe of funding to major infrastructure projects in the Peel region ahead of voters taking to the polls.
This included investment in the Peel Health Campus, Mandurah Train Station carpark and the Lakelands Train Station.
Despite paying credit to Ms Teede's "hard work" in the election campaign, Mr Templeman congratulated Mr Hastie for his "strong win".
"Clearly the focus now must be to get the work started on expanding the Peel Health Campus, building the multi-storey car park at the Mandurah Train Station, continued upgrade of Mandurah's Foreshore and delivering the promised funding to the Peel Business Park," he said.
"I also want to see the business case for the Lakelands Train Station to be completed as soon as possible."
In reply, Mr Hastie welcomed Mr Templeman's offer of co-operation, but said federal funding was guaranteed and as such it was the state government's responsibility to "put that money to work."
"Mr Templeman needs to read his own budget papers," he said.
"The WA Labor government banked funding in the state budget that I delivered to the Peel region with the Morrison government.
"We handed this funding down prior to the federal election. That was the heart of my pitch to the people of Canning - not just commitments, but a record of delivery.
"The Morrison government has injected over $84 million locally. The state government must put that money to work and start construction. I will be monitoring their progress like a hawk and be holding them to account if they drag their feet."
Mr Hastie identified the establishment of a train station at Lakelands as a priority for state government funding.
"I've secured $37 million to make (the train station) happen - WA Labor have promised nothing," he said.
"At this election the people of north Mandurah demanded that Lakelands station be built.
"We made that a central part of our pitch and the swings in the Lakelands, Madora Bay and Meadow Springs booths show that people responded in favour.
"Mr Templeman will answer to them if he fails to deliver."
