Hundreds of competitors and supporters will head to Dwellingup this weekend for one of Australia's leading multi-sport off-road challenges.
The Adventurethon Demolish Stage Race will run over two days on Saturday and Sunday, and includes three stages - paddle, trail run and mountain bike course.
As an added bonus for long-course competitors, a high ropes obstacle course at Trees Adventure, Lane Poole Park, has been added to the adventure run stage - the first time this fun and unique element has been offered as part of an Adventurethon race.
Adventurethon has been running events since 2010, however, this will be the first time the event has been held in the Peel region with events in Kalbarri each year and Albany previously.
The event is supported by the Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organisation (MAPTO), the Shire of Murray and the state government's Royalties for Regions Program, administered by the Peel Development Commission.
Adventurethon event director Joel Savage said the addition of the high ropes obstacle course will add a spike of adrenaline before the finish and sharpen up the competition.
"The long course numbers are strictly limited to be able to keep this stage flowing as smooth as possible so first in best dressed with the high ropes," he said.
"Adventurethon Dwellingup offers trail and adventure lovers the chance to escape the city and the same old street runs to get away from the general stresses of the city, parking, traffic and concrete and bitumen.
"They can come out and enjoy the sound of birds, nature and the crunching of dirt and leaves under their feet instead".
MAPTO acting chief executive Anita Kane said the event was a boost for the region.
"Adventurethon will not only bring visitors to the area, it will showcase its beauty as well," she said.
"Events give people a time-critical reason to visit us and help put our region on the map. They're also great for locals, meaning there's always something fun to take part in.
"Dwellingup is a beautiful part of our region and this course will highlight the magnificent jarrah forest, Lane Poole Reserve, Marrinup Loop and more."
