Local community theatre group Stray Cats Theatre Co are preparing to tell the story of the last week of Jesus' life in the global phenomenon Jesus Christ Superstar.
The energy and passion of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and Tim Rice's musical theatre classic will burst onto the stage of Mandurah Performing Arts Centre from May 9-12.
Jesus Christ Superstar originally hit the charts as a concept album in 1970 but then went on to be seen all around the world in various productions as well as two filmed versions.
Changing the face of musical theatre forever, the rock masterpiece has wowed audiences for over 40 years bringing the story of kingdom, empire, treason and faith to life.
A timeless work, it is set against the backdrop of the Gospel's universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.
Freedom is fought for and lives are risked to spread the word of one man that changed the lives of millions.
The show tells the story of the last week of Jesus' life and explores the power of the human spirit, driven by a famous blazing score from Lloyd Webber.
Featuring well-known classics like 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Everything's Alright' and 'Could We Start Again Please?', the show is one not to be missed.
Under the direction of Karen Francis, the Stray Cats Theatre Company's rendition starts with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ends with the crucifixion, also depicting the personal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus which are not shown in the Bible.
The cast is made up of talented actors, singers, dancers and musicians from the Peel and Perth regions.
Jesus Christ Superstar will take to the stage at MPAC at 7.30pm on May 9, 10 and 11 with matinee performances at 2pm on May 11 and 12.
