But for captains Daniel Adair (Mandurah) and Brad Holmes (Souths), there's more to Anzac Day footy than wins and losses.
"To be able to play footy on a day like this, it's exactly what all those people we're trying to pay tribute to fought for so it's definitely very special," Adair said.
"I think all the players are aware of what it means and it's certainly a huge day within the season, so we're just honoured to be a part of the day somehow." Holmes added.
Mandurah will be hoping to conjure their first win over the Falcons in eight seasons, having last beaten their cross-town rivals in 2010, while the Falcons are keen to continue their run of bragging rights as they look to bounce back from a 0-2 start.
It's unfamiliar territory for both sides, with Mandurah heading in as heavy favourites while the Falcons attempt to relish their underdog status.
Both enter the fray fielding relatively young sides, with Holmes believing the youth will decide the match.
"Both teams have their senior players that are probably the pillars of their sides, and you know what you get from those guys in terms of production," he said.
"But younger players can be a bit up-and-down, so if one side's younger crew can turn it on they're probably going to run over the top.
"There's a bit of a different feel for us going in as underdogs - I know I've never lost to Mandurah so hopefully we can keep that going and turn our season around."
The Mustangs will look to deny recent history, with Adair adamant his team can turn the tide.
"We'll definitely be taking a bit of motivation out of the fact that we haven't beaten Souths for long," he said.
"We're really happy with where our club sits at the moment so if we can get a win here it sets us on a pretty good path."
South Mandurah will be squaring off against some old friends in the clash, with former Falcons Brandon Penny and Sam Evans having converted to the Mustangs in the off-season.
The match looms as an important one for both sides early in the year, and kicks off at Falcon Oval on Thursday, 4.30pm.
