Alcoa's continual support of Bouvard Coast Care Group (BCCG) has improved the Mandurah coastline environment and brought the community together according to Peter Becker, BCCG treasurer and recently retired Alcoa Huntly employee.
"Alcoa has assisted in creating a place to be enjoyed for generations to come. The funding has provided rehabilitation activities, along with benches and a picnic table for the community to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of the coastline," he said.
The rapport between Alcoa and BCCG bloomed in 2011 when BCCG's grant was approved through Alcoa's ACTION Program (Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighbourhoods). Alcoa identified the partnership's positive impact and has continued supporting the group for the past seven years.
BCCG, a not-for-profit organisation preserving the coastal dune system and protecting local wildlife and vegetation, has planted thousands of plants in the sand dunes each year to help combat erosion.
Mr Becker is one of about 400 Alcoa employees who contributed to the 1500 hours volunteered to local community groups in 2018. The company donated about $150,000 towards projects for these non-profit organisations under the ACTION program.
