Huge nights from American imports Shaun Stewart and Marvin Smith led the Mandurah Magic to their second win of the State Basketball League season, as they took down the South West Slammers last Thursday night.
Stewart erupted for a stunning 38 points while Smith went for 26 as the duo combined for more than two thirds of their side's scoring in the 94-88 victory.
The South West had the chance to snatch the win late when Michael Lay hit a three-point bomb to cut the lead to just three with 24 seconds on the clock, but a technical foul against Tyler Livingston led to a Stewart free throw that would eventually ice the game.
Mandurah was forced to come from behind after a slow start though, with the South West landing the first blow outscoring the Magic by 10 in the first quarter.
The visitors posted a 16-7 run to open the game before Travis Durnin was able to score his first basket in an impressive night against his former side, but the Slammers continued their hot start to lead by 10 at the first break.
But Stewart got motoring in the second scoring a whopping 17 points as Mandurah stole momentum to take a one-point lead into half time.
They were able to build a further four points onto their lead throughout the third and looked set to run away with things when Smith hit the first five points of the fourth term to extend the lead to 10.
But Livingston, who ended the night with 31 points, scored a quick seven to see the South West back into the contest with the two sides going blow-for-blow down the stretch.
Lay's three-pointer gave the Slammers a sniff with time counting down, but free throws from Stewart and Cousteau Kyle gifted Mandurah the win.
Stewart ended the night with 38 points, six rebounds and three assists while Smith gathered 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Durnin ended his first game against his former side with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists while James Cannell tallied four points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
The win bumps the Magic up to 12th on the ladder, with a double-header against Perth (13th) and Willetton (11th) presenting the opportunity for more wins this coming weekend.
