The Peel Football and Netball League's inaugural second division season will open with a bang when the North Mandurah Magpies take on the South Mandurah Falcons in a derby this Friday night.
Bragging rights will be on the line in what will be the first ever second division game at Falcon Oval, with the Magpies running out in their club's first ever senior game.
The club has operated as a juniors club for years, but were among the first to put their hand up to field a team in the new division (set to be played as a grade below reserves football in the PFNL).
Head coach Simon Barnes said it would be a proud moment for the club to see their first ever seniors outfit take to the field.
"Everyone is stoked. It's going to be amazing to see senior footy being played in a North Mandurah jumper and you can tell the club is just really excited," he said.
"Particularly the playing group, you can tell they're really keen to get into it."
The two sides squared off in a scratch-match during the pre-season, with South Mandurah taking the win convincingly.
But Barnes is confident his team has progressed majorly since that first encounter, and anticipates a hard-fought game.
"When I took the job as coach the group had only been together eight days, and I'm already blown away by how far they've come," he said.
"We've got a pretty young midfield so we should have plenty of run and our backs are sturdy, so we're looking forward to seeing how we go.
"We'd love to have the bragging rights, but regardless of the result it's going to be a special game for the club."
The game between North Mandurah and South Mandurah kicks off at 6.30pm, Friday night.
Meanwhile Baldivis Blue will take on the Secret Harbour Dockers at Baldivis Oval on Saturday, 11.30am, followed by Baldivis Red facing off against Dwellingup at 2pm.
