A donation worth more than $12,000 from Mandurah's famous Christmas house got tails wagging at K9 Dog Rescue Group recently.

Mary Kartesz-Wardroper and her husband Alan own the most festive home in the Peel region and welcome thousands of guests each year to showcase their breathtaking display, which features more than 530 individual Christmas trees and 32 nativity scenes.

Every year, the couple spend six months decorating (and taking down decorations) inside and out of the home to create the magic of the holiday season for local and visiting families.

Among their Christmas traditions is raising money for K9 Dog Rescue Group, with a collection tin for guests to donate to upon entering the Winter Wonderland.

In 2017, the attraction raised more than $11,000 for the not-for-profit organisation.

Last year, they outdid themselves again, raising $12,100 for their favourite charity.

K9 Dog Rescue Group’s Janine Matthews said the money would be used to refurbish the old kennel block.

"We've had a couple of bequests left to us so we're going to put that money together to totally renovate the old kennel block," she said.

"We also want to put some new gates on the outside of the pens of the new block as well - that's a modification we've wanted to do for a while.

"The old block is over 20 years old and the wire and different bits are deteriorating and breaking down and the caretaker can only patch it up so much.

"We want to get that refurbished quite soon, before winter sets in, and we're at the stage now where we can get that ball rolling."

Ms Matthews said the organisation were so grateful for the Kartesz-Wardroper family's ongoing support.

"Every year we get wonderful big donations from them which is just fantastic and the house is amazing," she said.

"They're like our Christmas angels, our Santa Claus."
