The Peel Districts Little Athletics Centre will benefit from a $4800 boost in funding thanks to Coles and the sales of their Community Chiller Bags.
The centre will use the money driven from the supermarket chain's fundraising initiative to purchase new sports gear, and is one of over 160 club's around Australia to benefit from the scheme.
Funds for the grants are raised through the sale of specially-marked chiller bags designed by eight-year-old Lachie Macdonald from Victoria and 11 year-old Charlie De Bruyn from Western Australia.
For every bag sold, 25 cents is directed to the Coles Little Athletics Community Fund to provide sport equipment grants.
Peel Districts Little Athletics’ secretary Jo Bouchier said the new gear the grant would generate will go a long way for the club.
“The $4800 grant from Coles will have a huge impact on our centre," she said.
"Currently we have to carry all of our high jump equipment by hand and our long jump and triple jump trolley must be pushed quite a long way to where the sandpits are.
"The purchase of new high jump trolleys will make much lighter and easier work for our volunteers plus it will be much safer for them with less manual handling of equipment involved."
Coles State General Manager Pat Zanetti said Coles was delighted to provide grants to help the Little Athletics centres in locations such as Mandurah.
“The Peel Districts Little Athletics Centre told us they would like to receive a grant to buy marquees, starting guns, javelins and equipment trolleys and we were delighted to help because we know these are an essential part of little athletics to support young budding athletes and volunteers," he said.
