Mandurah City made it a clean sweep when they dominated Canning City 3-0 to finish their State League Night Series group stage with an unbeaten record.
Having all but secured qualification, along with top spot in pool five, Mandurah went into the game resting several starters including Max Snelson, Andy Brown, Lee Stewart, Matty Stares, Michael De Bellis, Cody Brooks and Jamie Oakley.
But the changes did little to affect Mandurah's hot streak, as did a mishap with the floodlights that left players and spectators in the dark for 15 minutes.
The Dolphins were dominant after the power returned, with some nice football across the back line finding Bailey Mullins in space, who clipped a ball for Cohen Aitken to run onto.
Aitkin took a touch and delivered a delightful ball across the box to find Regan Davidson, who tapped it home.
More sport:
From there Mandurah’s continued pressure resulted in a series of corners.
With great movement in the box and yet again another week of delightful deliveries from youngster Reece Allan, Canning we’re struggling to cope.
It was from the fifth corner that Mandurah got their second goal.
Canning won the initial cross but a poor clearance left Scouse Beckenbauer in an aerial 50/50.
The big man rose and headed toward the goal but it was teammate Joe O’Brien getting his foot to the ball to put the Dolphins up 2-0.
The second half began much like the first as Canning tried to find a way back into the game, but Mandurah's defence stood firm as they themselves were chasing a first clean sheet.
Some lovely football and great movement allowed Jeff Bright and Will Dobbs to maraud freely up and down the flanks, and it was from one of these runs Mandurah got their third.
Some lovely link-up play in midfield and a cutting pass through to Bright allowed the veteran to cross for Brian Crellin to finish.
The keeper saved the initial effort but Brian persisted and a ricochet left him with the ball at his feet in front of an open goal.
Sitting 3-0 up the only thing left to do was defend their clean sheet, with the Dolphins doing so in style as they kept their unbeaten record in tact.
Mandurah now progress to the quarter finals stage, which has them taking on pool two winners Forrestfield United at Hartfield Park this Saturday, 5pm.
