An unbeaten 77 from Nic Rep helped Waroona come within a game of top spot as they dealt ladder-leaders Baldivis their second straight loss on Saturday afternoon.
Rep was outstanding blasting out 10 boundaries (six maximums) as he led the Warriors’ charge to 7/243, a score they would go on to defend comfortably.
Waroona’s solid total came after a shaky start, with opener Mat Thomas (2) caught out leaving the side in a 1/3 slump.
Bevan Bennell was spectacular rectifying the damage, with his knock of 60 helping the reigning premiers keep the score ticking before Rep came in blazing.
His 77 spurred Waroona on while contributions from Mitchell Smith (27) and Ben Wright (23) saw the visitors out to a healthy total before their 50 overs were up.
Baldivis’ response was far from what was required, despite a handy 29 from Wesley Steele.
Dylan Gray (3), Greg Roos (5) and Matt Rennie (3) were all sent back to the pavilion early as the White Knights’ top order collapsed leaving them at 3/33.
Star batsman Cameron Reyne did what he could to buoy his side with a run-a-ball 40, but strong bowling from Wright – who finished with 3/26 – helped Waroona lock down the victory.
The Warriors are now within striking distance of Baldivis’ top spot, sitting one game back with two left in the regular season.
Halls Head def. Mandurah
Halls Head’s remarkable run of form stretched to six straight wins with Dale Burns and Chris Phelps spearheading a victory over a sliding Mandurah outfit in round 16.
Burns collected 4/20 to crush Mandurah’s batting order, with Ian Lattimore’s 37 runs their top score steering the side to a total 124 before being all out late in the innings.
Halls Head chased the score down in relative comfort, with Levi Muller’s quick 22 off 26 balls igniting the innings before Phelps blasted 47 from 58 deliveries to deal the final blow.
The victory keeps Halls Head’s finals hopes alive, but they’ll need a remarkable fortnight to lift them into the top four with matches against top two sides Waroona and Baldivis rounding out their regular season.
Pinjarra def. Shoalwater Bay
The Tigers are still snapping at Singleton’s heels for a top-four spot after taking down Shoalwater Bay over the weekend.
Jamie Lee went at a strike rate of more than 200 to post 51 runs from 25 balls, teaming with Jesph Slade (49) and Chris Zadow (48 not out) as the Tigers posted 221 from 49 overs.
Shane Schnaars fired back with 59 followed by a rapid 53 not out from Sebastian Websdale as the Seals threatened to overrun the total, but they fell agonisingly short ending the day on 8/220, one run shy of Pinjarra.
The lucky escape keeps Pinjarra a game behind Singleton, with matches against Mandurah and Hillman to come.
South Mandurah def. Hillman
The Holmes brothers teamed up to help a rampant South Mandurah chase down Hillman’s total without a losing a wicket on Saturday.
Openers Michael (66 not out) and Brad (56 not out) combined for an opening stand of 138, enough to surpass Hillman’s team score of 136.
Led by Steve Page’s 38 runs, Hillman got to their total in 39 overs before being dismissed.
The Holmes duo chased that down in 15 overs flat, blasting out their scores in no time.
Singleton def. Warnbro
Andrew Peckover tore through the Swans’ batting order to deliver a crucial win for the Irwinians on Saturday.
Peckover claimed a stunning 7/24 from his 10 overs, cutting Warnbro down on just 51 runs, exactly 200 shy of Singleton’s 251 total.
Joseph Senz (73 not out), Brad Ranford (57) and Mitchell Shellam (43) all starred as Singleton stormed to 8/251 from their overs, before Peckover’s stunning spell sealed the victory.
The win keeps Singleton inside the top four ahead of their clash with South Mandurah next week.
