With his guitar strings at the ready, independent musician and talented songwriter Neil Murray is gearing up for another epic live performance at Redcliffe on the Murray next month.
After making his break in Victoria in the late 1970s, the award-winning artist's career has spanned decades as both a group and solo musician.
He set course for the Northern Territory, emerging in Papunya in 1980 as a founding member of the pioneering Warumpi Band.
Together they released three albums 'Big Name, No Blankets, 'Go Bush', and 'Too Much Humbug' and performed contemporary Indigenous music for more than 20 years.
The band's greatest hits include 'Blackfella Whitefella', 'Fitzroy Crossing' and the famous classic, 'My Island Home'.
Murray went solo in 1989, releasing a number of impressive albums and cementing his reputation in the mainstream Australian music industry as a fine homegrown singer/songwriter.
His hits are known for their diversity and have contributed to deepening the nation's contemporary music heritage.
In perhaps his greatest career achievement, Murray was awarded the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) Song of the Year in 1995 for 'My Island Home', re-recorded by Christine Anu.
The song went on to feature in the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the opening ceremony of the more recent 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
And, as the acclaimed artist prepares to release yet another new album, 'Blood and Longing', he is taking to stages around the nation for an Australian tour.
Restaurant owner Nicole Young said they were excited to have Murray back at Redcliffe on the Murray to celebrate the March long weekend.
"He is so brilliant and so easy to listen to, such great free entertainment for families," she said.
"He is such an amazing songwriter, singer and acclaimed author and has such an Australian presences with his involvement in Aboriginal communities all around Australia."
Ms Young said it has been a successful summer of music at the Murray venue, after they welcomed back live gigs in October, 2018.
"It's been great, we have seen some amazing acts grace our stage and it's always a great vibe with live original music playing," she said.
"Of course we will be continuing and can't wait to share some great talent coming up such as Minnie Marks, Jay Hoad and Mapstone all from Byron way."
Neil Murray will play at Redcliffe on the Murray on March 3 from 3pm. For more information, visit the Facebook page or website.
