A Lakelands man was fined $1000 and granted a spent conviction after police found more than 100 tablets and 16 vials of steroids in his home.
Ashley Andre Donald Garcia, 25, pleaded guilty to possessing the steroids, 48 cannabis seeds and a homemade Gatorade bong when he appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police charged Garcia after executing a search warrant on his Lakelands home about 11.40am on September 14, 2018.
The drugs were found in his walk in robe and bathroom.
Garcia’s lawyer Clare Hay told the court Garcia has since undertaken a court rehabilitation program and no longer uses steroids or cannabis.
She said he was leading a healthy lifestyle and had secured employment.
It’s illegal, no matter if it’s the culture, or accepted in some circles.
- Magistrate Anne Longden
Magistrate Anne Longden told the court using steroids was against the law.
“The concerns of using steroids outweigh the benefits,” she said.
“It’s illegal, no matter if it’s the culture, or accepted in some circles.”
Ms Longden granted Garcia a spent conviction accepting the offending was unlikely to be repeated and he would not use drugs in the future.
