A 30-year-old man is set to appear in Perth Magistrates Court facing a string of burglary and reckless driving charges today, after being arrested following a police pursuit in Mandurah on Monday, February 11.
Mandurah Detectives arrested the man as a result of their investigation into burglaries that occurred between January and February in the suburbs of Maddington, Waikiki, Duncraig and Casuarina.
It will be alleged sometime between January 11 and January 12, a Hyundai i30 hatchback was stolen from a home in Waikiki, with the stolen vehicle displaying false plates used in numerous cross-district fuel drive-offs over recent weeks.
It is further alleged the vehicle was used in a fuel drive-off around 1.50am on Monday, before being sighted in Meadow Springs around 10.15am where police attempted to stop the vehicle, engaging in a pursuit.
The pursuit lasted for four minutes before police were forced to end the chase, due to safety reasons, near the Mandjoogoordap Drive and Gordon Road intersection.
The vehicle was sighted again at 10.50am by police in Meadow Springs, where they were able to stop it without incident in San Remo.
The 30-year-old homeless man was arrested and charged with four counts of no authority to drive, two counts of reckless driving in a confiscation zone to escape police, two counts of failing to comply with a direction to stop and two counts of stealing.
He will also face charges of stealing a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a controlled weapon and one count of driving a vehicle with false plates.
