The South Mandurah Falcons are the latest club to sign up for the Peel Football and Netball League’s brand new second division, after voting to field a team in the competition’s inaugural season at a committee meeting this week.
The division – set to be played as a grade below the current reserves competition – will aim to give clubs with expanding populations the chance to field an extra team within the PFNL, which the Falcons are eager to take advantage of, according to president Greg Barnard.
“It’s a very exciting decision for our club,” Barnard said.
More footy:
“When you go to a team selection every Friday night and you see the looks on blokes’ faces when they find out they’re not getting a game, it doesn’t leave you feeling great.
“They all pay their fees at the start of the season and it’s hard to justify them getting their money’s worth when they aren’t playing, so we’re rapt to be able to give those blokes a game every week now.
“This is for players who work [fly in fly out] or might have other commitments interrupting their footy, and it’s also a way for more people to enjoy the club.”
In other exciting news for the Falcons, the club expects to start breaking ground on its unisex change rooms project in a month’s time after receiving unanimous support for a final funding push from the City of Mandurah council.
The construction of the facility will cap off more than 10 years of planning for the club.
South Mandurah is currently on the lookout for players to sign up for its inaugural second division team, with anyone interested encouraged to contact club president Greg Barnard on 0418 668 266 or reserves coach Jason Mitchell on 0458 301 605.
