Authorities have warned a local boat owner to remove a sunken vessel at a Dawesville mooring within a week or they may face court.
The Department of Transport (DoT) has declared the 9.1 metre timber yacht, currently sunk in the Peel Mooring Control Area, as a a navigational hazard.
According to the warning, the department believes the vessel could obstruct other boats using the surrounding navigable waters and that the yacht has been abandoned.
The department’s marine safety general manager Ray Buchholz directed the boat’s owner to remove the vessel and all remnants from mooring.
