A family business, Scott said there were several things that set Mandurah Motor Marine apart.
“We are one of the few marine businesses that have weathered the storm of the GFC and the prolonged economic downturn in WA,” he said.
“I put this down to a couple of factors: we only sell quality brands that we believe in. Cheap and imitation products will always come and go but quality stands the test of time. Also, we give honest advice and value our customers’ feedback.
"We are always trying to improve what we do and move with changing trends - I always like to take lessons learned when dealing with companies in our community and try to incorporate best practice into our own business.
“Whilst we are, of course, keen to promote our brands, we will always listen to the customer and advise based on their needs.
"The reasons for this are simple - purchasing a boat is a big decision and should be a pleasurable experience. It is also our greatest opportunity to establish trust. We also believe that word-of-mouth referral is the best form of advertising we can possibly have.
“Many of our customers have dealt with us for years and have made multiple purchases. This is because we not only sell quality products but we value honest and friendly service, above all else.”
Scott said the emergence of electric motors was a particularly exciting aspect of the industry.
“Electric motors are becoming far more popular as a means of holding ground and manoeuvring, when fishing, hence our recent acquisition of the Minn Kota agency,” he said.
“We are constantly asked about the safety of vessels and we are secure in the knowledge that we sell one of the safest boats money can buy - Stabicraft.”
Scott encouraged prospective boat buyers to seek professional advice.
“It can be easy to be seduced by the ‘bright lights’ and ‘bells and whistles’. Friends can be helpful but ultimately, professionals are the best qualified to give advice, based on your needs. It’s important to get help to make the right decision, to make your boating experience as positive as possible,” he said.
Scott said it was satisfying to see locals on the water, enjoying the boating packages they have bought from Mandurah Motor Marine.
“I often get to hear about them as well as many of our customers who will drop in just to say hello and tell us how things are going. We even get to see different generations of the same family, starting their own boating journey - pun intended,” he said.
