Peel Thunder’s women are looking to make a splash in the inaugural WAFL Women’s campaign this season, kicking off 2019 with their first pre-season sessions earlier this week.
The squad will take to the field under the Peel Thunder banner (previously Peel Thunderbirds) in the new WAFL competition in the coming months, and they’re putting in the hard yards on the training track ahead of what new head coach Adam Dancey expects to be a strong season.
Dancey joins the club with a wealth of experience in the game, having taken on coaching roles since 2000.
He’s currently occupying an assistant role with Carlton for the 2019 AFL Women’s season, and has previously put in time in the WAFL, VFL and NEAFL levels.

But despite being in the early days of his tenure with Peel, the new head coach said he was excited to see what the club could produce in 2019.
“I’m feeling really good about the club and people we have around the team right now,” Dancey said.
“In terms of players we’ve got a really good mix of youth and talented experienced players, and the coaching and team staff is made up of really successful football people.
“It’s obviously very early and we’ve only just started training sessions but everything’s going really well so far.”
About 50 players took to the field for the club’s first pre-season session on Monday, backing it up with another hit out on Thursday night.
Not currently training with the side are AFL Women’s players Sabreena Duffy (Fremantle), Ebony Dowson (Fremantle), Tayla Bresland (Fremantle), Katie-Jayne Grieve (Fremantle) and Kate Bartlett (Western Bulldogs), who are just weeks away from kicking off their campaigns at the top level.
The group will return to the Thunder following the AFL Women’s season, and will spearhead the side’s attack as they look to make a big impact at the state level.
