They are usually intended for a nice easy stroll about town, but this mobility scooter is not for the faint-hearted.
A Mandurah man has advertised a $500 gopher on Facebook this week boasting high speeds and wheelie bin towing capabilities.
He told prospective buyers the “re-powered” gopher had a 250cc, five-speed manual clutch with reverse.
“Have had it up to 72 km (on phone GPS),” he wrote.
“Does go faster but is a handful at that speed to keep in a straight line.”
He also added the gopher has “electric start”, “new wiring”, a “new battery” and a “good strong motor”.
The post attracted plenty of attention and laughs online.
Popular satirical social media site The Bell Tower Times retweeted the advertisement, joking that “Grandpa got an upgrade”.
“This is my type of gopher,” one Facebook member commented.
By Western Australian law, users of such motorised mobility scooters are classed as pedestrians under current traffic laws.
The Road Safety Commission states that they are required to drive below the maximum speed of 10 kilometres per hour on any footpath, shared path or the side of the road if there is no footpath.
There are currently no laws prohibiting the use of mobility scooters by people who do not have limited mobility.
