Mandurah District Police have commended drivers after a holiday traffic operation saw only six people fined for exceeding the blood alcohol limit out of more than 3000 random breath tests.
Operation Sea Force was implemented to reduce road trauma in the Mandurah Policing District during the busy week from December 21 to 26.
Pinjarra Police Acting Senior Sergeant Gareth Reed said the operation captured incoming and outgoing holiday traffic at the start of the Christmas period.
Acting Senior Sergeant Reed said police were set up on main roads within the district to conduct random breath tests.
“The offence rate was really low, there were really positive results,” he said.
“It’s good news that such a high volume of breath tests were undertaken and there was quite a low level of enforcement.
It’s historically a bad week on the roads, so the results were really pleasing and it is good to see people generally doing the right thing.

“It’s historically a bad week on the roads, so the results were really pleasing and it is good to see people generally doing the right thing.”
Acting Senior Sergeant Reed said all 30 drug tests conducted were negative.
He said two vehicles were seized, one infringement and 50 cautions issued for “generally minor offences”.
Acting Senior Sergeant Reed reminded the community double demerits were being enforced until January 6, 2019.
He said the next police traffic campaign would run over the Australia Day weekend.
Double demerit points will be in place from midnight on Friday, January 25 to midnight Monday, January 28.
