Many Mandurah home and business owners are without power on Thursday morning, with wet weather overnight leading to 14,000 premises across the wider Perth metropolitan area being affected.
A Western Power spokeswoman said coastal communities from Mandurah up to Joondalup had been impacted by the issue, but crews were working to restore power across Perth.
Mandurah Police have also confirmed some Singleton, Madora Bay and Lakelands residents are without power this morning.
WA Police confirmed a power line at the intersection of Murdoch Drive and Whitehead Street in Singleton caught fire about 4.46am.
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said crews had attended the scene, the issue had been contained and a number of power poles across Perth had caught fire overnight.
Pole top fires can happen when there is a run of hot, dry and windy days followed by misty or cold conditions.
The Western Power spokeswoman said there was not a projected time that power would be restored to impacted properties in Mandurah.
“Crews have been assigned to all faults reported and we are working to reconnect customers as quickly and safely as possible,” she said.
“We will be updating our website throughout the day with estimated restoration times.
“Western Power undertakes an extension preventive maintenance program on our network of more than 800,000 poles including siliconing insulators, high-pressure cleaning to remove built up dust, and managing trees and vegetation near wires.
“If customers see a downed power line they should stay 8 metres away and call Western Power on 13 13 51.”
