We have much to be proud of here in Mandurah – our unique and beautiful environment is only exceeded by the kindness and warmth of the people who live and work here.
I am so proud, and honoured, to represent you in the state parliament since being elected 656 days ago as the third Liberal member for the District of Dawesville.
It truly is an immense privilege to stand and fight for the best community in Western Australia.
For me the central fight this year has been the Peel Health Campus. While the nurses, doctors and staff do an amazing job there, they do so in a hospital that is one third the size it needs to be.

Since our rally in May, which more than 350 people attended, I haven't stopped taking the fight to the WA government and I will not rest on this issue until we get a substantially upgraded hospital, expanded emergency department and a long-term plan for the delivery of health services in Peel.
The state government's recent announcement of $5 million to add eight new waiting beds by 2020 is a good start, but we need far, far more for our local hospital.
With more than ten community forums held this year, I continued on my commitment to be as open and accessible as possible. These forums have covered a range of issues including local crime, safer pedestrian crossings over Old Coast Road, shark mitigation, funding cuts to schools and local jobs.
Unfortunately we continue to see a trend that on these issues in particular, this state government ignores us in Mandurah.
Time and again we get missed in critical funding and much needed attention.
I will continue to fight to make sure we get the investment and attention we deserve from the WA Labor Government.
While we face many challenges, there can be no doubt however that Mandurah is the best place in Western Australia.
We are so lucky to live here and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support in my work as your state MP.
Michelle and I would like to wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday season. We hope you had a great Christmas and an even better 2019.
Zak Kirkup is the Member for Dawesville.
