OPINION
As my first, full-calendar year representing Murray-Wellington, 2018 has been busy.
I have been proud to assist a number of community projects receive state government funding, including a new facility for the Waroona Mens Shed and new skate parks in Dwellingup and Australind.
I was also delighted to work with Pinjarras Bedingfeld Park and the Brunswick River Cottages to help them receive $2 million towards a 25 bed dementia wing and the Preston Beach Progress Association to receive over $280,000 towards the replacement of the Preston Beach Community Hall.
Thanks to community effort, the small town of Cookernup was put on the map with the installation of town signs along South Western Highway.

We also secured funding for the planning of the Pinjarra Heavy Haulage bypass and Carcoola Primary School received important upgrades including a new science lab and resurfaced basketball courts.
One of the main highlights for me this year has been seeing Yarloop rebuild, with the Yarloop Fire Station opening, upgrades to the train station taking place and the new Community Centre currently under construction.
Im looking forward to seeing Yarloop progress further next year.
Another highlight has been helping out a community groups and individuals reach their goals through small donations from a young person from the electorate that wants to compete interstate in a sporting competition to a group that needs items to raffle for its upcoming fundraiser.
Being able to provide financial or other assistance to these groups and individuals is incredibly important to me.
In the New Year I will continue to encourage local community organisations to contact my office as I am more than happy to help out.
For 2019, I will be continuing to work with the community to achieve better outcomes across the region, particularly in the areas of education and health.
Part of this includes continuing to advocate for a gym and performing arts centre for Pinjarra Senior High School and pushing for greater access to health and mental health services.
Next year we will also be seeing further progress on both the Peel Business Park in Nambeelup and Kemerton Industrial Park.
These are two very important projects within the Murray-Wellington electorate that will create thousands of local jobs and transform the region.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.
I look forward to continuing working with the community in 2019.
