The year ends on an anticipatory note with works on several significant projects commencing in early 2019.
In January, construction begins on the skate park and pump track components of the Dwellingup National Trails Centre project.
Redevelopment work to transform the the Dwellingup History and Visitor Information Centre into a Visitor and Trails Centre commences in February.
Works will finish in April and September 2019 respectively.
In February, conservation works will commence on the St John’s Church building.
Works will include repairing wall cracks, installing an external drainage system, replacing the roof drainage system and existing roof tiles with lightweight cladding, restoring brickwork, replacing wall plates and upgrading the roof structure to meet current standards.
February also sees the start of conservation works on the Exchange Hotel.
The Shire aspires for the building to be redeveloped into a food and beverage establishment.
Landscape consultants are currently finalising plans for the redevelopment of the Murray River Square and adjacent foreshore, with works expected to commence in the first half of 2019 and conclude toward the end of the year.

In 2018, the Shire strengthened its place-based approach through its continued relationship with placemaking group Pinjarra Connect and the recent establishment of Dwellingup placemaking group, Dwellingup Creative.
Dwellingup Creative’s first event, Carols in the Forest, takes place this Saturday December 15 at 5:30pm at Forest Discovery Centre.

The Shire’s Communications and Marketing team have been out in the community chatting to residents, and following the survey period (ending 11 January), feedback will be assessed to inform the development of a Communications and Engagement Plan.
The review further ensures the Shire uses resources optimally, which is especially important during this exciting time, considering Murray’s advances in economic development and major project delivery.
