The Piper’s Inn will be a barrel of laughs next year when new comedy room ‘Canned Comedy’ opens on January 7, 2019.
‘Canned Comedy’ will be a monthly comedy show at the local Scottish institute with a twist.
The entry fee is a can of food to support Mandurah’s Foodbank.
Organiser Sean Conway said the initiative had already proved successful in Perth.
“We launched our first Canned Comedy on August 1 at The Civic Hotel in Inglewood,” Conway said.
“Since then, we’ve raised just shy of 650kg of food which has worked out to around 1300 meals for people in need in Western Australia.
“Our goal in 2019 is to significantly improve on that number as we expand into the Peel region.”
A comedian himself, Conway said audiences could look forward to
“The Piper’s Inn is a Scottish bar so we thought we’d get the best Scottish comedian in Perth, Grant Mushet, to emcee,” he said.
“A bunch of Perth’s best up and coming will be performing alongside him.
“It’s going to be a red hot night.”
Conway said it was an important event for a number of reasons.
“Foodbank does a lot of work for people in need and for the community,” he said.
“But it’s also an opportunity to give high quality entertainment for an affordable price
“People that do struggle to pay for events don’t have to worry about the financial burden of what some comedy shows cost plus they get to contribute to the community.
“And it gives a lot of Perth comedians the opportunity to perform to expanded new and good audiences.”
The Piper’s Inn owner Gary Drummond said they were honoured to be a part of Canned Comedy.
“We got in touch with Sean about doing a comedy show here and he suggested it and we were on board,” he said.
“It’s a great thing for us to be a part of and we hope the community get involved.”
Canned Comedy will play at The Piper’s Inn in Halls Head on the first Monday of every month, with the launch on January 7, 2019.
