An astonishing display of batting from Jamie Lee led Pinjarra to a victory over South Mandurah at Sir Ross McLarty Park in round 10 of the Peel Cricket Association season on Saturday afternoon.
The opener went berserk after the Tigers opted to bat, blasting his way to a resounding 179 runs (the highest score of the season) off just 141 balls, with his knock consisting of 23 boundaries (eight maximums).
It was a display of sheer power against a luckless Falcons bowling outfit, with Pinjarra on fire from the get-go.
The home side were off to a flying start when Lee teamed up with fellow opener Jake Foley (who fell just shy of a century of his own on 98), for a 187-run stand before the latter was dismissed.
The game didn’t get any easier for the visitors when Kim Eddy (37 runs) arrived the crease to put together another booming partnership of 112 runs with Lee.
By the time the opening batsmen was ousted off a caught and bowled from Brad Holmes his side sat at a commanding 3/334, which was stretched to 5/374 by the end of their innings thanks to a late 29 not out from Matt France.
While the Falcons’ chase eventually fell short, they refused to lie down meekly with Holmes brothers Brad and Michael giving valuable contributions.
Brad proved a force tallying his own century with 106 runs before he was bowled by Hugh Sando, while Michael went for 53 before being run out.
The Falcons ticked over a reasonable amount of runs but it wasn’t enough to catch the rampant Tigers outfit as they were all out on 258 in the 40th over.
The win keeps Pinjarra in the top four.
Mandurah def. Hillman
Premiership fancies Mandurah made it a perfect 10 wins from 10 games when they took down Hillman on Saturday.
Half centuries to Ben Drummond and Sach In (who both went for 54 runs) spurred Mandurah to 8/245 before an even spread of bowling helped them defend their total.
Hillman was bolstered by Ben Voges scoring 38 but Mandurah’s Ian Lattimore was efficient with the ball, ending with 2/12 from his 10 overs (four maidens) as his side sent the Hornets packing on 147.
Mandurah remains atop the table with their unbeaten record in tact.
Waroona def. Shoalwater Bay
Ben Wright’s batting and Dan Abel’s bowling saw the Warriors to a win over the Seals in round 10.
Wright chalked up 86 runs hitting 10 fours to lead Waroona to 186 off their 50 overs, with Shoalwater’s Sebastian Websdale doing all he can to keep his side in the hunt with 4/29.
Websdale followed up with a team-high knock of 44 with the blade, but Abel rallied to take 4/17 off his 10 overs (two maidens) helping dismiss the Seals on 134 late in the innings.
The win is Waroona’s eighth on the year and keeps them in third place.
Singleton def. Halls Head
A stellar spread of bowling and an unbeaten 40 from Bryce Evans helped Singleton cap a win over Halls Head on Saturday.
Electing to bat first proved a nightmare for the home side, with Louie Harding (4/29), Ian Bowes (3/27), Andrew Peckover (2/4) and Brad Ranford (1/9) all in good touch for the Irwinians’ bowling attack.
Their efforts kept the hosts to just 69 runs being ousted in the 27th over, and Singleton fired back quickly with Evans leading the way.
The Irwinians had the job done after 19 overs, finishing 2/70.
White Knights Baldivis def. Warnbro
Baldivis claimed their eighth consecutive win when Darren Solomon and Shaun Lynn buoyed them over Warnbro.
Charl Nieuwenhuis (66) and Kaine May (49) teamed up to give the Swans 6/182 from their overs despite Lynn snaring a four-wicket haul, but Baldivis found a way to etch out yet another win.
Solomon went unbeaten in his knock of 59, and teamed up with the in-form Greg Roos (45) to give the White Knights an 82-run partnership that would help them secure the victory in the later stages of the game.
Baldivis remains in second with nine wins from 10 games.
