A flock of keen race-goers greeted the return of the racing season at Pinjarra Park on Sunday afternoon, with the running of the Alcoa Pinjarra Grandstand Cup launching the track into summer.
The thousands-strong crowd soaked up sunny skies as the Pinjarra Race Club galloped into the 2018/19 calendar, and it was the Mark Wright-trained Scandal Maker galloping fastest in the main race to take the win.
Clutching to the lead down the straight jockey Craig Staples was able to fend off a spirited effort from the Simon Miller-trained King Of Chaos on his way to the victory.
Meanwhile spectators enjoyed live music and a visit from a special guest, with Santa stopping by for some happy snaps with the kids to celebrate the club’s annual Christmas Race Day festivities.
