The Peel Volunteer Resource Centre (PVRC) celebrated 25 years of service to the Peel region at their annual Alcoa Peel Volunteer of the Year Awards on Wednesday, December 5.
The event was the 12th annual Peel volunteering award, timed to coincide with International Volunteer Day which is known as Thank a Volunteer Day in Western Australia.
Mandurah MP David Templeman emceed the ceremony on the western foreshore, thanking all of the volunteers for their commitment to the Peel region.
“We share this beautiful place with so many people who have been volunteering and making a contribution to our community for so many years,” he said.
“This is a very special night because it’s our 25th year of the Peel Volunteer Resource Centre and it’s wonderful to reflect on this organisation.
“A quarter of a century on and we now have 138 members and interview and refer about 1000 people every year and I think that deserves a round of applause.”

PVRC manager Vicki Pollard was presented with a special token of thanks for her many years of service.
Janice McGlinn won 2018’s Peel Volunteer of the Year for her contribution at the Seniors and Community Centre.
The winner of the Peel Youth Volunteer of the Year was Jamie-Anne Madigan.
The hard-working and inspiring teenager is a founding member of Mandurah Catholic College’s Social Justice Committee and has represented the college at St Vincent de Paul leadership camps and the Catholic Youth Summit.
The year 11 student has also recently dedicated her time to educating primary school students on recycling as part of her campaign to reduce plastic waste, and is a prominent advocate for the Heal Peel initiative.
Meanwhile Mandurah’s WA Mums Cottage took out the Community Group of the Year award.
Volunteers at the charitable service provide companionship, guidance, education and assistance to families experiencing difficulties.
