Rockingham-Mandurah chalked up their fifth win of the season defeating Scarborough by 56 runs in round seven of the Western Australian Premier Cricket season over the weekend.
In a very tight first grade competition, the consistency of the Mariners has seen them edge to the top of the table with one match to go before Christmas.
Craig Simmons bagged 6/55 from 22.4 overs at Lark Hill with his renaissance from batting all-rounder to bowling all-rounder now complete.
The Rockingham-Mandurah captain is equal leading wicket taker in the league with 22 and has notched 11 scalps in the past two matches.
Scarborough were dismissed for 192 in the 72nd over trying to overtake the home side’s 248.
Openers Adam France (2/28) and Leon Coombs (1/44) continued to pave the way for Simmons’ spin by breaking through in the first session while Aaron Burrage (1/11) claimed the wicket of top-scorer Lochie Hardy for 83.
At stumps, the Mariners had some second innings fun making 4/77 before next week’s match with Bayswater-Morley.
Joel Marion and Ronan Hogarth ripped through the Gulls’ middle and late order to get second grade home by 47 runs at Abbett Park.
The home team appeared in good shape to overhaul the Mariners’ 237 total when they found themselves at 2/91 and 4/139.
But left armer Marion broke through the middle order en route to 3/36 and Hogarth took up the cudgels, finishing the job with 3/44.
The win gets Rockingham-Mandurah in the top six mix before their clash with second-placed Bayswater-Morley at Lark Hill.
Fourth grade’s bowlers engineered a superb 48-run triumph, routing the home team for just 97 at Abbett Park, to climb into sixth spot.
