Two important Peel charity organisations will benefit from a spectacular New Year’s Eve event at the Premier Hotel in Pinjarra next month.
The Peel Community Kitchen and Safe Woman, Safe Family will receive 50 per cent of the profits from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Explosion music concert on December 31.
Safe Woman, Safe Family are a new drop-in centre, not quite open yet, that aim to offer assistance and support women who have been impacted by family and domestic violence, through a holistic approach.
Peel Community Kitchen aim to serve the community by providing meals to those in need including the homeless, unemployed, elderly pensioners and families living below the poverty line.
Safe Woman, Safe Family director Tanya Langford said they were honoured to be considered for the funding from the event.
“We’re just brand new and we really want to be embedded in the community,” she said.
“We’ve got no major funding so the funds raised at the event will be crucial for us.
“Pinjarra is coming along nicely – there’s some lovely people doing some wonderful things. There’s people wanting to make this area a better place but we have to work together to get the word out about it.”

Peel Community Kitchen deputy chair Liz Lipscombe said the event would help them spread the word among a so far untapped part of the community.
“It can reach the population that normally we would miss. Often when you’re doing fundraising, it’s a lot of the similar type of people that are already aware of what’s happening in those fields,” she said.
“So when you do an event like this with the special artists and things like that, it’s going to really target a whole new population that hopefully help get the word out about both of our organisations and how we need the support from the community.
“We don’t get any funding either – there’s a lot of organisations that are all in the same situation so to raise money we do regular sausage sizzles once a month down at the swap meet markets and apply for community grants.
“But you get turned down so often because there’s so many great causes out there, that’s just how it is.”
Organised by United Musicians and Dynamik Events, Rock ‘n’ Roll Explosion will feature guitar tributes from Voodoo Child, an epic set from five-piece band Fuse, acoustic originals from former local Rob Walker and foot-tapping hits from blues legend Lindsay Wells.
Artist Rob Walker said he was excited to play the gig to end his year, while raising funds and awareness about two integral pillars of the Peel community.
“Although I now spend most of my time north of the river, I still call the Peel region home and I’m looking forward to seeing in the New Year and performing at The Premier Hotel as I’ve never played there before,” Walker said.
“It was my pleasure to accept the invite to not only put on a great NYE show but also help raise funds for two local businesses doing great things for those in need.
“It’s a sad fact that domestic violence, homelessness and hunger still plague our “evolved” society but it’s a positive sign the conversation is getting louder and louder.”
Event organiser Michael Madigan said he just wanted to do something for the groups that dedicate so much of their time and resources to those in need.
It's about the journey not the money, it's about people and helping each other.

“I got sick of watching them in pain – none of them are funded by the government, they all rely on donations,” he said.
“So I figured I would fill up a venue with people who love rock ‘n’ roll to promote the cause.
“I just want to have a meaningful life and the highest level a person can reach is to be of service to people.
“It's about the journey not the money, it's about people and helping each other.”
