Peel Thunder youngster Durak Tucker is officially on an AFL roster after being chosen by the Sydney Swans in the AFL Rookie Draft on Friday afternoon.
The Swans made the Bunbury product their first pick in the rookie draft when they snaffled him up with the 12th overall selection, giving the talented 18-year-old a shot at the top level after his 2018 was crippled with injury.
Tucker – a gun colts player at Peel – tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a training sessions just days after a round one battle with East Fremantle where he gathered 15 disposals.
It was a bitter pill for the aspiring star to swallow, putting a significant hurdle in his path to the draft and the AFL level.
But the defender’s pain turned to joy on Friday when he was made a Swan, giving him the chance to ply his trade under some of the game’s best defenders such as Jake Lloyd and Dane Rampe.
While Tucker’s 2018 was a write-off, his 2017 season saw him impress in 12 games for the Thunder’s colts side.
His ability to read and intercept the play at half back highlights his game, while his speed helps create offence.
