Falcon residents have been urged to help decide the future of the suburb’s recreational hub ahead of the local government’s announced cash splash in the area.
The reserve will be redeveloped as part of the City of Mandurah’s Falcon Reserve Activation Plan, which is aimed at ensuring the provision of sporting facilities, community meeting spaces and passive recreation is adequate in the area.
The City of Mandurah has commenced several community consultation sessions ahead of the changes to gauge what residents would like to see at their local park.
Residents are urged to get involved through taking part in interactive community workshops, contacting the local government to share opinions or idea and by registering to receive updates on this project.
The Falcon Reserve Activation Plan proposes upgrades to the public toilets and change rooms, on-site skate park, play spaces, as well as the parking and paths networks.
The project has been listed as behind schedule due to a delay in the funding application stage.
The set back was so significant councillors decided to redirect funding from the project into the Port Bouvard Surf Saving Club’s new storey extension.
The extension at the club was listed as a priority over the reserve at during council’s October meeting.
During the meeting, council approved $118,500 of unbudgeted expenditure to accept Bistel Construction Pty Ltd as the preferred tenderer of the extension.
To fund the existing project shortfall of $118,500, officers urged councillors to reallocate the necessary funds from the Falcon Reserve’s skate park upgrade project.
The report revealed the skate park upgrade was not expected to be completed this financial year, due to the lengthy community engagement and design process.
Council pledged to re-budget funds for the Falcon Reserve’s skate park upgrade project in the 2019/20 draft capital budget.
