Local arts and craft ladies from across the Mandurah area have come together to launch a new creative initiative.
‘Create’ is a craft group designed to create local impact and develop a sense of community using the skills of local group members.
Not only is the group focused on its local community, it is also forming a wonderful community of its own as the women meet together every Friday morning at The Salvation Army.
Create co-ordinator Joy Stallard said the idea of the group was to bring people together and have a positive impact on the local community.
“I recognised that there was a need in the community for crafty people to have a space where they could meet together, share their passions, and work together to impact others’ lives,” she said.
The next step for the group is identifying needs in the community where they can employ their skills to make a difference.
“We want to reach out with love and let people know that they are worth caring for,” Stallard said.
“We’d love the opportunity to bring a bit of fun to an area by yarn-bombing a tree, and so we’d love for someone to suggest a suitable tree.
“We’re also looking for wool, fabric, ribbons and like-minded people that would like to help with our projects.”
Later this year the group will visiting local retirement villages and giving out Christmas stockings filled with gifts they have made.

The group is passionate about equipping people with new skills and would welcome anyone who is interested in learning machine sewing, fabric doll making, basic hand sewing, crocheting, card making, and creating clothesline bowls.
“The ‘Create’ group is a wonderful ministry to the community as it brings people together with a shared passion and a unified purpose. With that kind of foundation, wonderful things are possible,” he said.
‘Create’ operates at The Salvation Army in Mandurah every Friday from 9am to 12pm and Joy would welcome anyone interested in being a part of the team or helping out.
