Holmes, Buck lead South Mandurah to healthy win over Halls Head

Buck paved the way with his outstanding figures of 4/23 from 9.2 overs helping to dismantle Halls Head’s batting order, and Holmes starred in the Falcons’ run chase carving out an unbeaten 78 runs to see the side over the line to open their account.

Holmes also starred with the ball taking 3/30 to go with his game-high knock, collecting the important wickets of Elliot Foote, Dale Burns and Jarod Little.

Halls Head opened with the bat and appeared off to a steady start when Foote (34 runs) teamed with fellow opener Levi Muller (14) to kick off the game with a 49-run stand.

But the duo fell quickly and left Lee Burns (28) shouldering the workload.

Brad Holmes was also productive with the ball for the Falcons allowing just 16 runs from his 10 overs while snaring a pair of wickets, as South Mandurah dispatched their opponents for 142 in the 45^th over.

Souths looked shaky at the start of their chase with opener Scott Atkin dismissed on four, but Liam Kerr managed to post 22 runs before Michael Holmes arrived at the crease to spur the team into a strong position.

His 78 runs gave the Falcons everything they needed to hit the target with 12 overs to spare and two wickets left in hand.

South Mandurah will be hoping the win kicks off a turn in form for their A-grade side, which had suffered four straight losses previously.

Masterclass performances from Mitchell Smith, Matt Thomas and Jayden Derosa led the reigning premiers to a victory over the winless Hillman in round five.

The Hornets opted to bat first and were buoyed by Ben Voges’ 65 runs, but Smith’s bowling skittled the Hillman order as he claimed a remarkable 3/6 from seven overs (which included two maidens).

The Warriors dismissed their foes on 119 runs in the 44^th over, and would go on to chase the total down without losing a wicket.

Openers Thomas (62) and Derosa (54) blasted out the needed runs to come away with their fourth win on the season.

Mandurah put Shoalwater Bay to the sword at Stan Twight Reserve on Saturday, ending the game in rapid fashion using just 6.4 overs to chase down the Seals’ total of 68 runs.

Bowler David Schonberger was in immaculate form rattling Shoalwater’s batsmen on his way to 5/15 from six overs, with his efforts helping keep the Seals to a measly 68 runs before they were all out.

But what took Shoalwater 25 overs to amass took Mandurah just 6.4 to chase down, with openers Jeremy Leatherbarrow (35) and Ian Lattimore (34) partnering up to smash out a run rate of more than 10 per over on their way to the jaw-dropping win.

Mandurah now sits clear atop the table with five wins from five outings.

Pinjarra held a gutsy Swans outfit at bay over the weekend with strong performances from Luke Gorman, Chris Zadow and Jake Foley guiding them to a win.

Gorman nailed a game-high 71 runs after the Tigers opted to bat first, while Zadow came in at 10^th in the order to pile up 46 as the duo spurred their team to a 159-run total despite solid bowling from Alexander Cowan and Jarrod Smith, who both claimed the figures of 3/14.

Mitchell Cowan helped Warnbro make a dash at Pinjarra’s total with his 34 runs supported by 27 from Travis Gordon and 20 from Daniel Rowe, but Foley conjured 4/26 to put paid to the Swans’ hopes of a win.

The win lifts Pinjarra into the top four.

Baldivis upset Singleton to knock them from the top four over the weekend, handing the powerhouse club their second straight loss thanks to big games from Stefan Botha and Dylan Gray.

Strong performances with the ball from Botha (4/18) and Peter Russell (3/16) helped keep Singleton to just 131 runs as they were sent packing after 47 overs, before openers Gray (41 runs) and Wesley Steele (38) helped the White Knights get their run-chase off to a solid start.

The two pieced their totals together in quick fashion igniting an innings that would see Baldivis top Singleton’s score with 14 overs to spare, ending on 7/135.

Baldivis sits in second on the table with four wins from five games.
