A Mandurah teenager will be welcoming more than 100 women to her home for a fundraiser after learning of her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis this year.
Tayla Ward has made it her mission to raise money and awareness of the disease, especially after her mother Tania’s cancer has become more aggressive since February.
“This is called metastatic breast cancer, which takes the lives of women,” she said.

“Unfortunately, the survival rate of metastatic breast cancer is not as high as we would like it to be.”
“Only one in five women are still alive five years after diagnosis, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“I am hosting the fundraiser to promote awareness and spread the message.”
I do not want anyone having to go through what my family and I have endured over the past eight months.

The Girls Night In fundraiser will be held on Friday, November 2.
“On the night we will be asking for donations, having a silent auction whilst indulging ourselves in drinks, platters and of course a bit of chit chat,” Tayla said.
“This is a cause extremely close to my heart and I aim to spread the message to check your breasts and acting urgently if there is something abnormal.
“I do not want anyone having to go through what my family and I have endured over the past eight months.
“Although the journey has been tough, we are fighters and won’t let this get us down.”
All money raised will go to the Cancer Council.
