Not many eight year olds have stepped foot on a motorbike, let alone raced one.
That is how Jax Wilkinson spends most of his weekends – getting down and dirty on race tracks around the state competing for another trophy to add to his collection.
The Lakelands local has been selected to race in Sydney at the Aus X Open for the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge and is among only 10 kids picked across the country to compete.
Jax said he is very excited to race on November 10.
“I’m very excited to go to Sydney and compete,” he said.
“It’s so fun and I could get a medal and trophies. I already have nine trophies and 17 medals.
“We went to Sydney last year to watch the kids and my friend was in it and I wanted to be in it.”
The Sydney event is expecting to sell out with 25,000 people set to watch Jax’s race.
Jax’s dad Jono said he was very proud of his son’s achievement.
“We had to submit all of his race results for the year and his school report and lucky he’s good at school,” he said.
“We got an email to let us know he’d been picked and we didn’t think we’d get it, it’s a bit surreal really.”
Jax could have a very long motocross career ahead of him.
“I got my first Honda when I was five and my first KTM when I was six,” he said.
“Now it’s my last year racing a 50cc because you have to be under nine.
“I don’t know what I want to do when I grow up, maybe ride motorbikes.”
