Mandurah’s A-grade side maintained their perfect start to the 2018 Peel Cricket Association campaign with a weekend victory over neighbours South Mandurah at Peelwood Reserve on Saturday.
In ideal conditions, South Mandurah won the toss and looked to put pressure on their table-topping rivals by opting to bat first.
However, things did not go quite to plan, with opening batsman Daniel Jones being dismissed early for a duck.
Jesse Buck and David Holmes Senior offered some resistance, amassing 20 runs apiece, while Caleb Sawyer top-scored in South Mandurah’s middle order with 32.
After 47 overs, South Mandurah were all out for 158, with bowlers Sach In and Lewis Binns both starring by taking three wickets.
In reply, Mandurah overcame the early loss of Ian Lattimore (4) by keeping the scoreboard ticking over, with Justin Solly putting together a well-worked 45 and In top-scoring with 49.
Buck was South Mandurah’s most-effective attacking weapon, claiming three wickets, but Mandurah claimed victory in the 46th over with a score of 8-159.
The result means Mandurah are the only unbeaten side in the competition after four consecutive wins, while South Mandurah prop-up the standings and are yet to record victory this season.
Shoalwater Bay blitz Singleton Irwinians
Singleton won the toss and headed in to bat in their clash with Shoalwater Bay at Stan Twight Reserve, but failed to fire against an impressive bowling attack.
It took just 25.4 overs for the hosts to be bowled out, amassing a modest score of 70 runs in the process – opener Danny Woollard top-scored on 23.
Shoalwater wasted little time in chasing down their target, with Nicholas Milligan’s quick-fire 42, which included eight boundaries, helping the Rockingham-based outfit to a winning score of 3-74 from 14.3 overs.
Pinjarra prevail against Halls Head
Pinjarra moved up to fourth on the ladder with a hard-fought home victory over Halls Head at Sir Ross McLarty Oval on Saturday.
The hosts batted first and despite a couple of early wickets, were steadied by defiant showings from Jake Foley (61) and Patrick Gorman (63), amassing a solid score of 291.
Halls Head started well in their reply, with Levi Muller (40), Michael Chappell (57) and Craig Ford (56) excelling before the visitors’ middle order collapsed.
The Mandurah-based side were all out for 228, with Pinjarra’s Joseph Slade chalking up a five-wicket haul.
Baldivis stroll to victory over Hillman
A pedestrian Hillman outfit won the toss and batted first against White Knights Baldivis on Saturday, but were all out for 89 runs in the 31st over.
Mick McCurrach offered some resistance at sixth in the batting order by recording a tidy 29, but Mitch Brown decimated the Hillman attack with a five-wicket bag.
Hillman were offered the hope of an unlikely upset when Baldivis batsman Dylan Gray fell after five balls for a duck, with fellow opener Wesley Steele (8) dismissed shortly after.
Despite this, solid returns from Cameron Reyne (22), Darren Solomon (21) and Roy Crouch (18) ensured Baldivis claimed their third win of the season with a score of 7-91.
Waroona on a roll after win over Warnbro
Defending champions Waroona have won three of their opening four games, with victory against Warnbro Swans on Saturday adding to their strong title defence.
Warnbro struggled for consistency as regular wickets fell, with Daniel Cook’s 23 the best the home side could muster in their 115-run tally.
Waroona opener Jayden Derosa (38) led the victory charge for his side, who finished on 116 runs after 46 overs.
