As the weather warms up in the Peel, Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club members are gearing up for some summer fun on the water.
On Saturday, local boaties gathered at the Breakwater Parade precinct to officially open the sailing club’s 2018-2019 season.
Club officials spoke at the event as attendees enjoyed nibbles and cold beverages before the boats were launched from the marina.
Music from Mandurah Concert Band and live acoustic tunes by David Spencer filled the club house and served as a lovely backdrop for the exciting occasion.
A highlight of the event was a firing of the cannon ceremony.
Club commodore Rob Brown welcomed attendees to the free family fun day and declared the 2018 sailing season officially opened.
“We may not always get it right, however, what we try to do is always with the best interest of our club at heart,” Mr Brown said.
“We’re all volunteers and our job is to make sure you all have an inclusive family friendly club. Your job is to boating, be involved and have lots of fun.
“The world of club life is changing due to legislation and our club needs to change with it.
“There was a need for us to consider our current constitution to ensure that it compiles with the state legislation coming into affect on the first of July 2019.
“I’m very pleased to advise that at our annual general meeting, held last Sunday, members overwhelming voted to adopt a new constitution that will form the basis of club operations for many years to come.
“Thanks to the team that worked so diligently to achieve the result.
“I personally am looking forward to working with our management committee, our dedicated staff, our tireless volunteers and of course our members to achieve our goals.”
