This year’s Musical Fruit festival is preparing to delight audiences as part of the entertainment lineup for the 2018 Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games.
The music festival, back for it’s fourth consecutive year, aims to to showcase 100 per cent local and original music and home-grown talent.
Another sweet and juicy list of talent is on the menu for the outdoor concert at the ‘Top of the Terrace’ on Friday, November 2.
The first debut Musical Fruit festival was held at the Ravenswood Hotel and attracted over 3,500 people.
The event featured 17 local acts performing over 12 hours across two stages.
Organiser Dave Feenstra said there was a high demand for local and original music in the Peel region.
“That [first festival] told me that there was a market and an audience to come out and hear original music,” Feenstra said.
“Perth and Fremantle have a great original music scene and I’m just hoping to let the public know that we have a great scene here in Mandurah too.”
Local artist John Butler said the event was the perfect way to showcase the untapped wealth of talent in the Peel region.
“Nurturing our local artists and musicians is one of the most powerful ways to inspire and sustainably invigorate a community,” Butler said.
“I’m so happy this is happening.
“Now it’s time to soak it up and enjoy the produce we have here in our midst's.”
The stage will be set up near the Mandurah Bridge at the corner of Mandurah Terrace and Pinjarra Road, with Mandurah Terrace closed to traffic.
“We’re opening it up to be like a big street party, it’s going to be pretty cool,” Feenstra said.
With alfresco licences issued to Bar Therapy, The Bridge Garden Bar and Brighton Hotel for the week of the APES Games, attendees will be able to able to purchase food and beverages from all three venues and take it out onto the licensed area that forms the ‘Top of the Terrace’.
This year folk rockers The Milkmen and indie-pop rockers Indigo will headline the event, alongside a variety of WA artists.
“We’ve got eight acts in total so we’ll jam quite a bit into that, we’re going hard and fast,” Feenstra said.
Volume 4 of the Musical Fruit album will be available to purchase on the day, featuring original tracks from the performers.
The concert will begin at 5pm on Friday, November 2 on Mandurah Terrace.
