The newly refurbished Mandurah Family and Community Centre was officially opened on Tuesday, October 23
The Pinjarra Road building boasts impressive meeting spaces, a children’s playground and plenty of rooms for children’s activities.
Lotterywest funded more than $300,000 towards the centre to improve the facility’s internal and external walls, roofing, plumbing and electrical.
They also spent $50,000 on the impressive playground on site.
City of Mandurah community and development manager Tim Hartland said the project was a credit to the city staff involved.
“The idea of this building is to focus on community, it’s a not-for-profit space and a place where people can come and bring their families,” he said.
“Hopefully it’s a place that all this precinct can connect with – the library, Lotterywest, Tuart Ave and the arts and crafts."
Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams said the new facility was an asset to the community.
“I believe this building was built initially in 1987 which makes me laugh as it’s the year before I was born so no wonder it needs a face lift,” he said.
“I can’t help but be a little bit proud of the fact that once again, we’re demonstrating collectively as a community, our commitment to those that are doing it tough.”
Mandurah MP David Templeman also attended the opening and described the new centre as idyllic.
Anglicare WA will be the inaugural tenants in the building, with space for further tenants yet to be filled.
