The Swamp Stompers are preparing for another gig at Redcliffe on the Murray on Thursday, November 1.
Returning to their “go-to venue”, band members Corey Legge, Luke Ligtenberg and Oliver Morley-Sattler will play to their local fans at the Pinjarra venue to kickstart the WA leg of their national tour.
The tour to launch their latest EP Shadows on the Wall has already travelled down the east coast of Australia over the last month.
Vocalist and guitarist Corey Legge said the trio are excited to return to the west coast for the fourth time to perform.
“West Australian audiences are more receptive to what we do because there’s not as much music over there so people really get behind the bands that do come over,” Legge said.
“I think there’s also less distractions in venues and more of a scene.
“We’ve always done great gigs [at Redcliffe] and we’ve got a lot of friends and fellow musicians that will come to watch our shows there and then we’ll have a bit of a jam after the show.”
The Swamp Stompers’ funky rock and groovy blues sound emerged from the coastline of New South Wales in 2012 when Legge and original drummer Mitch Broadhead met at Southern Cross University in Byron Bay.
Since then, the band has grown in size and rearranged their members a little and now boast an original .. that sounds like the lovechild of a John Butler Trio and Red Hot Chili Peppers mixtape.
The band have earned an impressive reputation as a promising emerging act since making their mark at the Caloundra Music Festival in Queensland and Sydney Blues and Roots Festival in NSW.
Legge said the band take inspiration from a variety of new and old bands and musicians to create their high-energy live shows and their signature raw sound.
“It’s a funny band in that sense because we all listen to a lot of different stuff,” he said.
“I listen to a lot of 70s rock music like ACDC and Led Zeppelin then Luke listens to a lot of modern bands like Arctic Monkeys and Sticky Fingers.
“And our drummer listens to a lot of jazz and Afro-Cuban stuff so it’s very diverse.”
Shadows on the Wall is the band’s fourth EP in six years and has a come-of-age sound.
Their previous single Wicked West received Triple J airplay and peaked at No. 3 on the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) rural charts.

Legge said the boys are looking forward to big things in their future.
“In the next few years we want to tour overseas – we’re hoping to get to the UK and western Europe,” he said.
“We’ve done four EP’s now so we’d like to do an album next.
“We want to get bigger and better and branch out a bit.”
The Swamp Stompers will play at Redcliffe on the Murray for the first gig of their WA tour leg on Thursday, November 1.
Ricky Green will open the show at 6.30pm before the Stompers take the stage until 9.30pm.
