Four Mandurah Triathlon Club athletes took to Hawaii for the Ironman World Championships on October 13.
Mark Hunter, Darryl Harris, Michelle and David Boyes joined nearly 2,500 athletes that descending on the island’s west coast town of Kona.
The competition has been described as ‘one of the world’s toughest triathlon races’ and ‘the highlight of the triathlete’s calendar’.
The four local competitors qualified for the international competition at the Busselton Ironman in December 2017.

Athletes were blessed with what they would describe as a “perfect day”.
The day boasted light winds and some of the mildest temperatures in the 40-year history of the Ironman World Championship with temperatures in excess of 30 degrees celsius and in 80-85 per cent humidity.
The temperatures was a contrast for the Mandurah athletes, who were coming from the end of their season and having to train through winter.
It was Hunter and Harris` first time competing the Ironman World Championship, while veterans of the sport Michelle Boyes celebrated her 10th trip and David Boyes` toasted to his 11th.
