A new Mandurah program aims to bring together cops and the community.
Under the community engagement program, local police officers will meet face-to-face with residents each week to hear their concerns and answer any questions.
Mandurah Police Senior Sergeant Darren Hart said the regular meetings would be held in several different locations.
“It’s a chance for the community to interact with local police, ask questions and let us know what is affecting them,” he said.
“Hopefully people will come along for a chat and children can have a look in the police car.”
Senior Sergeant Hart said officers spoke with about a dozen people at Lakelands Shopping Centre on Thursday, October 18, at the first meeting.
“We didn’t get as many people as we hoped because of the bad weather, but there were some positive interactions,” he said.
Officers will meet in a new location every Thursday from 7pm to 8pm.
The meetings will run until the end of December and will continue next year based on interest.
Upcoming meetings:
- October 25, Golden Bay, Shopping Complex on Dampier Drive
- November 1, Dudley Park, Boat Ramp on Waterside Drive
- November 8, Secret Harbour, McDonalds Carpark on Warnbro Sound Ave.
