The Mandurah Pro surfing competition will continue despite a 3.5 metre great white shark being sighted by nearby fisherman.
Surf Life Saving WA reported the sighting at 8am, 500 metres off Avalon Beach.
A Surfing WA spokesman said the competition would continue, despite the sighting.
“We have been advised and we have a (jet) ski in the water and drone surveillance,” he said.
“We are continuing the competition.
“It wasn’t a helicopter sighting, a few fisherman told our water safety officer.
“They were pretty far out, maybe a kilometre.
“We are just monitoring it.”
The Mandurah Pro started on Saturday and will continue until Tuesday.
