The stormy weather didn’t keep surfing fans away from checking out the action of the Mandurah Pro on Sunday morning.
Excitement has been building for months ahead of the inaugural Western Australian Pro Surf Series, beginning in Mandurah.
The competition kicked off at 9.30am at Geary’s Beach in Falcon and will continue until Tuesday.
Despite the stormy weather, organisers chose to delay the start of the competition until Sunday because of better swell.
Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the conditions were better suited to a Sunday start.
"With a four day competition window we can really pick the eyes out of the forecast and put the surfers out in the best surf Mandurah can throw at them,” he said.
